D Deus Ex Machina Pronounced "deh-oose ex ma-kee-nah", it is a story device used to abruptly and unrealistically resolve and end a story; e.g. the British army suddenly appears to save the day in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Director The creative head of a movie production. Some of the famous ones include Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg. Also the primary scapegoat for a flopped movie. Director's Cut An edited version of a film that represents the actual intent and vision of the director. A director's cut may consists of the original movie with added outtakes or reshoots. Sometimes existing scenes are trimmed down or removed completely. Examples: The Star Wars Special Editions, and most of Ridley Scott's films on DVDs. See Outtakes. Drama, Dramatic (also a genre) Highly emotional situations in a story, or a genre of movies characterised by emotional, dialogue-heavy and character-focused storylines. Dubbing The process of recording and replacing dialogue in a movie, usually to replace it with a different language. Also called Looping. See also Additional Dialogue Recording (ADR). |
