Child monster
Thomas (the Highlander himself Christopher Lambert) and Mathilde (Nastassja Kinski) wanted to have a child, but their numerous attempts were unsuccessful. A doctor himself, Thomas was later approached by colleague Professor Cardoze with a controversial solution. In desperation, Thomas decided to proceed with the experiment while keeping it secret from Mathilde. The procedure was a success as Mathilde gave birth to her own clone. The couple’s joy was short-lived as the child matured and started to exhibit peculiarities (e.g. sharing the same memories as her mother’s) and violent tendencies.
Ŕ Ton Image (I think it means “a spitting image”) is obviously a cautionary tale on human cloning, but instead of creating an interesting debate about it, the filmmakers took the child monster movie route ŕ la The Omen. Still, this is an intelligently crafted thriller that aims for realism, takes its time with the pacing and does not rely on rapid cuts and bombastic scores to highlight the exciting moments. Image also boasts a surprising turn from Christopher Lambert, who did a great job as the guilt-ridden and tormented Thomas. Probably the first Christopher Lambert movie I’ve seen where not once does he do his trademark Christopher Lambert cackle. Nga-hah! - BMF
