| The devil drives Mazda |
| Made in 1983, Christine was adapted from a Stephen King's novel and directed by John Carpenter.
In this movie, Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) is a typical 80’s American high school nerd who is picked on, overruled by his parents, and has very few friends. Until he meets Christine, a run-down 1958 Plymouth Fury (which is actually a 1957 Belverdere) and buys her. Arnie learns that Christine has a thing for him and devotes his time to restoring her. Over time, Arnie begins to change and becomes disconnected with reality and his friends. Arnie's girlfriend Leigh (Alexandra Paul) and best friend Dennis (John Stockwell) find out that Christine's previous owner cared about nothing else when he bought her and that Arnie is becoming just like him. The only way they can bring Arnie back to reality is to destroy Christine, But Arnie and Christine are ready to destroy them first and any one else who gets in their way. The beauty of this movie is in the fact that the main attraction of this low-budget flick with unknown actors is that the car is the 'hero and villain', not to mention the genius of John Carpenter for pulling it off! |

| I would like to state that doing this review brings me back to the days when I was 'restoring' my first car, a 79' Alfasud Veloce Sprint. Fortunately it did not have an inferiority complex like Christine, but in my humble opinion, when you are 'restoring' a classic on a tight budget, you tend to form a 'bond' with your car and you will do whatever it takes to get it running. Like in my case, I had to get a job to keep my car running!! |

| Also, this movie showcases both of my favorite American muscle cars, which are the 1963 Chevrolet Camaro RS and the 1968 Dodge charger RT, which was driven by Dennis. It was shot with aftermarket rims that did justice to both the appearance and performance of the car. Bottom line freaksters, Christine is one of those movies that any 'car nut' worth his or her salt should have in their collection; and for me, this movie deserve a GOOD rating. |
