| A quick review: BASICALLY… Francis Ford Coppola’s 3rd best movie after The Godfather 1 and 2. Also considered one of the best espionage movies ever. LIKE… The French Connection with wire-taps replacing the cop action. LOVE… how sneaky people already are during the 70s. And they’re only using wire-taps running on magnetic tapes. No secret is safe! HATE… nothing. It’s that good. May be slow-moving to some people. BEST BIT… (SPOILER WARNING!) Some would say it’s the bits where ‘bugger’ Gene Hackman starts to realise more and more information from a recording pivotal to the plot. Mine is still the ending where the unbeatable Hackman finally meets his match. OVERALL… a great thriller. For fans of The French Connection, The 39 Steps, The Day of the Jackal, and ‘serious’ espionage movies from the 60s and 70s. They don’t make them like they used to anymore. THANKS TO... Coppola and Hackman. Old is gold. - BMF |
