The Cars:
The Ford Mustang shown is a 1967 Ford Mustang that comes with a 390 cubic inch V8. Well guys, don’t dream of driving this baby in Malaysia or Singapore as it is one thirsty mama, not to mention the 'balls-squeezing' cost of its Road Tax; unless of course you own an oil rig! It's rear wheels are capable of putting out up to 320 Ponies on the tarmac (in stock trim!), and you will notice this when Steve McQueen is 'burnin’ rubber'. Many of you dudes out there with your Mitsu Evo's 7-9 or Subaru WRX STI's would scoff at this numbers and the crudeness of this car, but in my opinion, TORQUE rules baby and this baby has loads!!!

As for the Porsche 356 Spyder, which the chick was driving, I doubt the producers gave much thought about the car, but for me I love it as this car signifies the birth of the Porsche brand, and instead of designing a sledgehammer like the Americans, the Germans decided to create a lithe, elegant, reliable and frugal 2-seater that is sporty; and also capable of fetching a really good price today.

Note: Not to be mistaken with the model James Dean crashed with, the Porsche 550, which drawn its inspiration from the Porsche 356, introduced to the world in the 1953 Paris Motor show. It is an aluminium-bodied, open top sports car with a total weight of 550kg. It has a 1.5cc flat four engine that is capable of producing up to 110bhp, which is very significant for the time.

They don't Bullitt around with the car chase sequences in this movie.
The Movie:
Set in the mid Sixties in San Francisco, it is one of those straight to the point Police-themed movies. The hero in this production is none other than Steve McQueen as a police lieutenant, Jacqueline Bisset as a young architect and Robert Vaughn (of
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. fame) as the D.A. The beauty of this movie is in its simplicity, interesting camera angles and I have saved the best for the last (drum roll please) KISS ASS CAR chase ever seen.
Done on the streets of San Francisco with little or no special effects, our hero, Steve McQueen was chasing two hitmen in his 1967 Ford Mustang GT350 and those guys were in a Dodge Charger. And the best part, no one uttered a word during the chase. The point of the car chase in this movie is that there weren’t any special effects utilised. That is not the case for the Knight Rider definitely, (remember David Hasselhoff pressing the 'turbo' button and kit flying around, very lame!!). Starsky and Hutch car chase scenes are 'over the top'.
So folks, This is Definitely a must have movie for all you car nuts and petrolheads out there, or even folks who enjoy good Police movies. Bottom line my friend, Bullitt may be a rather well worn example, but it was and still is, a plain, simple action movie with no pretensions!
