Fun galore
Goldfinger may not be the most sophisticated Bond movie, but it certainly is one of the most entertaining. The third installment ditches the old-school spy thriller approach in From Russia With Love and goes crazy with one of the series’ most eccentric villain ever (gold-obsessed Auric Goldfinger) with the most ludicrous schemes to match – to rob the U.S. Bullion Depository at Fort Knox of all of its 4,000 tons of gold. The fun part is watching James Bond (Sean Connery), himself already a larger-than-life character, trying to fathom the bizarreness of the situation. When not busy avoiding a machine gun-totting grandmother, Bond’s ducking a flying, decapitating bowler hat, and Connery’s reactions to these were priceless. Even Q’s latest toy was too awesome to be smirked at. Goldfinger also has the cheekiest Bond Girl moniker in the entire series, and I’d be surprised if you didn’t already know what it is. One of the best Bond movies in my book. - BMF

Directed by Guy Hamilton (The Winston Affair, The Best of Enemies) and screenplay by Richard Maibaum (prolific Bond screenwriter) and Paul Dehn (Orders to Kill, On Such a Night). Stars Sean Connery, Honor Blackman, Gert Fröbe, Harold Sakata, Shirley Eaton, Cec Linder, Bernard Lee, Lois Maxwell and Desmond Llewelyn. Based on the novel by Ian Fleming.
