On the 2003 remake:
A satisfactory job

A daring attempt to steal 35 million dollars worth of gold bullion turned to tragedy for a bunch of professional thieves, when one of their members turned against them and kept the gold for himself. Unbeknownst to him, the team survives. A year later, they're back, they're broke and they want their gold back! Cue elaborately planned heist and f***ing Mini Coopers!

Judging by Spoovans' standards, I may have committed an automobile crime by watching the Italian Job remake first, and actually enjoyed it! Well, Mark Wahlberg can be pretty charming at times, and he's pretty good here. Donald Sutherland does the whole wise old fart thing pitch-perfect, and Charlize Theron is always great eye candy, much more so than Angelina Jolie. The Transporter is here also, along with Dr Evil's son and some rapper, plus Tyler Durden picking up the baddie role this time round. The whole affair feels rather
Ocean's Eleven-ish, but all for the better. Both movies will charm you, and you just wanna hang out with these crooks because they're funny and kinda cool. Admittedly, the focus is hardly on the Mini Coopers, but then again it may be the same for the Michael Caine one as well (I'm just guessing... I haven't seen it). - BMF

On the original 1969 movie:
Job well done

The original
The Italian Job was a humorous, '60s movie that is quaintissentially 'Britain vs Italy' sort of thing going on. But the ultimate focus was on the cars utilised in the movie, with the 'British-made' being much 'better' compared to the 'Italian' made cars. It was definitely a really good pr campaign for Mini Cooper, as the car became an instant classic, thanks to this movie.

The American remake of the movie sort of 'distorted' the playfullness and humour of the original. Ultimately, it depends on the taste of the viewer. As for me, the original is my all time favourite!

Also, Tom Jones did make a good score for the movie; and the 'Cockney' accent is due to the fact it is a 'British' movie. Though I do admit, I am rather biased towards British movies and series that were made during the '60s and '70s( i.e.
The Avengers, The Saint, etc.)
