Star Wars, in a nutshell, is a science fiction series that follow the space-faring adventures of a group of individuals whose lives are intertwined with the politics of a fantastical galaxy world. Created and directed by George Lucas, the first Star Wars movie (now known as Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope) was released in 1977 to massive critical and commercial acclaim. Lucas made two more sequels, The Empire Strikes Back (or Episode 5, considered to be the best installment in the entire series) and Return of the Jedi (Episode 6) before going on a long directorial sabbatical. There were television spin-offs with obvious decline in quality, before the official movies were to resurface again fourteen years later in 1997, as CG-refurbished Special Editions. The Special Editions served as a warm up to Lucas’ main plan, to create the true sequels or “prequels” to his original movies, starting with Episode 1 and finally completing the entire anthology with Episode 3. Even so, Lucas vows to continue the saga with new television features, which will fill the story “gaps” between the sequels. |
